France is to follow the UK in introducing a bonus tax on bankers, early in 2010. Germany seems to have more sense.
Are the French turning Anglo-Saxon? Regrettably, the continental boot is on the UK’s foot and much good will it do us. Worst case it’s merely an added cost to the exchequer if it proves of limited scope and expensive to collect. Never mind, a popularist prejudice, based on a misplaced concept, has been satisfied.
The French tax will be payable on awards greater than €27,000 at 50%.
